The challenge

As digital product landscapes grow, consistency and coherence become more important and harder to maintain. At Scania, teams were designing across different products, platforms, needs, and levels of maturity. Good digital design could not depend only on individual designers making good choices. It needed shared standards, practical guidance, and better ways for teams to learn from each other.

As Digital Design Lead, I brought a broad design background into that growing practice. This meant contributing to the design system, helping shape guidance and strategy, supporting designers through reviews and advice, and creating spaces where design knowledge could be shared across teams.

What I did

  • Contributed to Scania’s digital design system. I worked on complex components, guidance, and reviews that helped make the system more useful and easier to apply in product work.

  • Helped shape digital design guidance and strategy. I contributed to guidelines, examples, and strategic direction that made good digital design easier to understand, discuss, and apply.

  • Supported designers and product teams. I reviewed design work, gave practical feedback, advised on brand-related questions, and helped teams make stronger design decisions.

  • Led Scania’s UI Design Guild. I created structure, topics, sessions, and communication for a community where designers could share knowledge, discuss challenges, and learn from each other.

  • Used storytelling to make ideas easier to understand. I created inspiration, visual examples, and clearer presentations that helped communicate strategy, quality, and the value of design.

Impact

The result was a stronger shared foundation for creating digital products at Scania. Teams had clearer references for making design decisions, and more shared spaces to discuss how design should support the brand, the product, and the wider user experience. That made better digital products feel less like the result of individual interpretation, and more like something teams could build toward together.
